Why one page
The design story of this site: one page, no accounts, and the reasons behind both.
A question that fits on a page
The site began with a question that needs no interface: of the eight billion people alive today, what were the odds of being born your exact self? A question that small deserves an answer one tap away. So the game, the words and the tables all live on a single page, and nothing stands between a person and the question.

The world reports the numbers
No birthplace here is invented. The odds are the birth statistics the world itself publishes, and every line that quotes a number says where it came from in the same breath. Where the world’s tables end, the game says so plainly, instead of quietly making something up.

Twenty-five languages, one plain voice
The site speaks twenty-five languages, and none of them is a machine dump. Each edition is written in that language by hand — the jokes, the certificate, the fine print — because a life lived in your own words must actually be in your words. A build that finds a missing translation refuses to ship.

Everything stays on your device
A life, its keepsakes, its shelf, its film: all of it lives in your browser and nowhere else. There is no account to create and no server that wants your story. When you close the tab, the history is still yours — on your machine, unuploaded.

The classroom door
Teachers asked whether the page could visit a classroom. It can: a quiet mode with no ads and no sharing, made for a projector and a discussion. The most serious questions here — who gets born where, and why — were always questions a classroom asks better than a scoreboard.

What a page owes the truth
One page means one promise: nothing here pretends. Not the odds, which carry their sources; not the limits, which the methods page states outright; not the stories, which are fiction and admit it. A small site can afford to be exactly as honest as its numbers. That is the whole design.
